Upgrading or Downgrading Your Subscription

You can change your subscription tier at any time from inside the portal. Upgrades unlock features immediately; downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. This article explains the mechanics and the proration math.

How to change your plan

• Sign in to portal.aitaxaccountant.com.
• Open the Upgrade page from the sidebar, or click Change Plan from the Billing page.
• Choose Monthly or Annual using the toggle.
• Select the tier you want — Essentials, Professional, or Advisory.
• Click Upgrade Now (or Reactivate if your subscription was previously canceled).
• Complete checkout on Stripe. You will land back in the portal with the new tier active.

When upgrades take effect

Upgrades are immediate. As soon as Stripe confirms payment, the new tier unlocks across the portal — your next report will include every feature of the new plan. The Upgrade screen confirms this with the message "Upgrade takes effect immediately. Your next report will include all unlocked features."

When downgrades take effect

Downgrades are scheduled — they do not take effect until the end of your current billing period. You keep access to your current tier for everything you have already paid for, and the new lower price starts on your next renewal. No partial credit is issued on a downgrade.

How proration works on upgrades

When you upgrade mid-cycle, Stripe calculates a prorated charge — you pay the difference between what you have already paid for the old tier and the cost of the new tier for the days remaining. Your renewal date stays on the same day of the month it was before.

Switching between monthly and annual

• Monthly to Annual — treated as an upgrade. Stripe credits the unused portion of the current month and charges the annual total immediately.
• Annual to Monthly — scheduled change. Your current annual term runs to its end, and monthly billing starts the next day.
